Frequency Converter - Hz, kHz, MHz, GHz & More
Use the free Frequency Converter to convert between hertz (Hz), kilohertz (kHz), megahertz (MHz), gigahertz (GHz), terahertz (THz), revolutions per minute (RPM), radians per second and other frequency units.
This online frequency calculator is useful for electronics, electrical engineering, radio frequency (RF), telecommunications, audio, signal processing, physics, rotating machinery and other technical applications.
What Is Frequency?
Frequency is the number of complete cycles, oscillations or repetitions that occur in a given period of time. The SI unit of frequency is the hertz (Hz).
One hertz means one cycle per second. Higher frequency values indicate that more cycles occur each second. For example, 1 kHz represents 1,000 cycles per second, while 1 MHz represents 1,000,000 cycles per second.
Frequency is commonly used to describe electrical signals, sound waves, radio signals, electromagnetic waves, mechanical vibrations and rotating systems.
Frequency Units Supported
| Unit | Symbol | Relationship to Hz |
|---|---|---|
| Hertz | Hz | 1 Hz |
| Kilohertz | kHz | 1,000 Hz |
| Megahertz | MHz | 1,000,000 Hz |
| Gigahertz | GHz | 1,000,000,000 Hz |
| Terahertz | THz | 1,000,000,000,000 Hz |
| Millihertz | mHz | 0.001 Hz |
| Microhertz | µHz | 0.000001 Hz |
| Nanohertz | nHz | 0.000000001 Hz |
| Revolutions per Minute | RPM | 1 RPM = 1/60 Hz |
| Revolutions per Second | RPS | 1 RPS = 1 Hz |
| Radians per Second | rad/s | 1 rad/s = 1/(2π) Hz |
Hz to kHz Conversion
To convert hertz to kilohertz, divide the frequency in hertz by 1,000.
Example: 5,000 Hz = 5 kHz.
kHz to Hz Conversion
To convert kilohertz to hertz, multiply the value in kilohertz by 1,000.
Example: 2.5 kHz = 2,500 Hz.
MHz to Hz Conversion
For example, 10 MHz equals 10,000,000 Hz.
GHz to MHz Conversion
For example, 2.4 GHz equals 2,400 MHz.
RPM to Hz Conversion
RPM means revolutions per minute. When one revolution represents one cycle, rotational frequency can be converted from RPM to Hz by dividing by 60.
Example: 3,000 RPM ÷ 60 = 50 Hz.
Hz to RPM Conversion
Example: 50 Hz corresponds to 3,000 RPM when one revolution represents one cycle.
Radians per Second to Hz
Angular frequency is often expressed in radians per second. The relationship between angular frequency and ordinary frequency is:
Where f is frequency in hertz and ω is angular frequency in radians per second.

Where Is Frequency Used?
Frequency is an important measurement in many technical and scientific fields.
- Electrical engineering: AC power frequency, motors, generators and electrical signals.
- Electronics: oscillators, clocks, processors, filters and signal generators.
- Radio communications: radio frequency, wireless signals and communication channels.
- Audio: sound frequency, musical tones, speakers and microphones.
- Telecommunications: RF carriers, wireless networks and transmission systems.
- Mechanical engineering: vibration, rotating machinery and motor speed.
- Physics: waves, oscillations and electromagnetic radiation.
- Signal processing: sampling frequency, signal analysis and filters.
Frequency vs Wavelength
Frequency and wavelength are related properties of waves. For a wave traveling at a known speed, wavelength can be calculated from frequency.
Where v is wave speed, f is frequency and λ is wavelength.
For electromagnetic waves in vacuum, the wave speed is the speed of light. Therefore, increasing frequency results in a shorter wavelength.
